Rock Magnetic Signature of Heterogeneities Across an Intraplate Basal Contact: An Example From the Northern Apennines

Heterogeneities in the magnetic signature along intraplate shear zones complicate their correlation with physical processes that are involved geodynamic evolution of megathrusts. Isolating preferred orientation different minerals may provide insights into faulting processes, tectonics, and strain partitioning. Studies exhumed analogs fundamental to constrain variations properties respect a context zones. This study uses combined statistical approach separate contribution coexisting petrofabrics better interpret heterogeneities signature. The main results indicate there is strong dependency among variation anisotropy distance from thrust faults localization within zone. Close thrust, we observed shear-related fabric, indicating high degree non-coaxial strain. Away faults, ellipsoids' oblateness gradually diminishes subfabrics related previous tectonic events or less intense deformation become dominant. Our observations also decoupling across basal dominant vertical uniaxial footwall. In contrast characterization remanence provides significant information on variable response subpopulations ferromagnetic shearing, reworking independent processes.
